Projects for Education Improvement

 

Advanced Scientific Research Program:

 

Science course that competes with the AP Sciences. Students participate with a scientific research team are engaged with the entire scientific process from the primary question, the research proposal, and the analysis and display of their data. Students publish and present their results at a professional meeting.

 

Creating Laboratory Access for Science Students CLASS (Project): 

Designed and developed science laboratory experiences which are: universally accessible, intellectually developing, and meet the NSES. As a NSF funded project, the implementation and testing of these activities occurred in summer workshops with physically disabled students, special education teachers, science teachers, lab assistants, and higher-ed science educators. The purpose is to deliver scientific concepts, in a meaningful way, to ALL students ranging from K-16.

 

Los Angeles Science Education Reform System (LASERS):

Designed, authored and implemented LASERS for Los Angeles Unified School District with collaboration and support of Chevron, American Geological Institute, It's About Time Publishing, and LAUSD.  The program develops internal support and expertise for teaching Integrated Coordinated Science.  Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science for LAUSD; impacting 30 leadership personnel, 460 teachers, and 350,000 students.

 

Partners in Integrated Earth Systems Science (Project PIES):

Ohio Board of Regents funded, Inquiry based, Integration of Chemistry and Earth Science at the Duke Marine Laboratory, Professional Development of Science Teachers.

 

Science, History, and Reading Education (Project SHARE):

Designed and implemented project to coordinate the teaching of ESL students in Reading, World Civilization, and Earth Science in a small learning community aimed at increasing literacy and student performance across disciplines in an urban school.

 

Science Teaching for Ohio's New Economy (Project STONE):

Mineral Ohio Aggregate and Mineral Society, Ohio Board of Regents, and Wright State University funded, Jobs and products of Ohio Aggregate and Mineral production.

 

Soldier Education for Returning Veterans In Career Enhancement (SERVICE):

Help veterans' skills in resume building, and Microsoft proficiency. Career and education counseling; how to apply for colleges, vocational institutions, or universities, as well as information about grants, scholarships, or other student aid.  Education training for GED prep, test taking skills, research paper writing, and study skills.
